Roald Dahl, master of fiction, wrote a number of extraordinary nursery rhymes; he challenged conventions and re-imagined the adventures of Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Cinderella, and Goldilocks.

Led by Niteo’s Andrew Goldstein, this 12-week program will give students the opportunity to read literature, participate in discussion, and to answer questions. Students will analyze a variety of works by Dahl, O Henry and Mark Twain, while learning to write a variety of responses - comparisons, short-answers and plot summaries. Over time students will develop valuable literacy skills necessary for success in school and beyond.

Student work will be read and assessed by Mr. Goldstein, an experienced teacher, who will help them develop confidence in writing.

Classes will be held online, using Zoom.

The transition to high school can be especially tough for many students. Niteo’s Andrew Goldstein will lead this engaging program that will focus on improving and solidifying literacy skills. Throughout the 12 weeks, students will work on a variety of activities with an emphasis on the oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills necessary for success in the ENG1U and ENG2U courses

Each week students will have an opportunity to read and analyze literature, and complete writing assignments consistent with the Grade 9 and 10 curriculum, including short answer and five paragraph answer questions. Materials are drawn from notable authors such as Kate Chopin, Langston Hughes, Ernest Hemingway, and Roald Dahl.

Students submit weekly assignments that are graded by an experienced teacher.

Classes will be held online, using Zoom.
